The New World
Completed: 2026



Overview:

Created in response to a 1918 work by Paul Nash titled ‘We Are Making a New World’, created during World War I, which depicts the aftermath of trench warfare to represent an idea commonly held at the time that the scale of destruction and desolation in the first World War would lead in some ways, to an ‘end of all wars.’

The destruction of European centers of power both in the 1st and 2nd World War were believed, perhaps naively, to single a new era of ‘world peace’- what happens after is unfortunately far from the same, yet conflict simply changed shape and form. Wars once fought between armies on ‘battlegrounds’ are now orchestrated by governments, enabled by corporations and inflicted onto civilians. The cities of the ‘Third World’ become the modern battlefronts. The children of the third world become the targets. This battlefield is the world’s most thriving marketplace, with the massacre of millions of civilians treated as an acceptable consequence.

The work aims to depict a cycle of violence through blurring lines between damage inflicted onto human and nature. The imagery, through the presence of human figures and the automobile; foregoes the outdated notion of an isolated, distant battlefield into a populated environment - where a symbol of the future (the car) finds its place now as one of the tools of modern warfare, either as weapon or wreckage. The promised ‘New World’ never materialized; the ‘great wars’ instead setting the stage for a larger, ongoing war, inflicted onto civilians and children.

Illegal Aliens
Completed: 2026



Overview:

Illegal Aliens draws on from imagery that went viral on the American iinternet, showing a suppsoed ‘alien infilitration’ on the border, the vaguely South Asian men becoming placeholders for a fear of takeover. I became interested in the absudrity of this image as well as the nromalization of the dehumanizing langauge of ‘alien-ness’.
